Hello from Bloomington, Indiana

I am new to this website, but decided to join after browsing through some of the posts. This appears to be a very friendly and helpful group. I bought my first Pentax SLR 20 years ago when my three daughters were young. I had a 110 instamatic camera that was stolen and decided to buy a 35mm SLR with autofocus. I looked at the Minolta model first, but did some research and decided the Pentax SF-1 was the camera for me. I purchased it along with a Takumar F Zoom 28-80 Macro and the Takumar F Zoom 70-210. I bought the camera primarily to use to photograph my children and their activities. I also used it to photograph my show dogs starting a few years later as well. I had taken a picture of 4 of my show dogs that had gotten published in a sheltie calendar, and three years ago I entered that photo in a photo contest that netted me a $1,000 cash prize. I decided to put the money back into photography equipment as I had become hooked on digital photography when my wife purchased a Sony Mavica CD400 for me for Christmas 2002. I ended up purchasing a Pentax *istDS with the 18-55 kit lens and a Quantaray 70-300 Tele-Macro that was offered as a two lens deal for $899. I got it in March 2005 and have rolled the counter over once already and have taken almost another 2000 pictures since then. It has been a great camera. Labor Day weekend this year I received my K10D, battery grip, and AF540FGZ flash just prior to a two week trip out west through several national parks. I have taken nearly 3500 pictures with it now. I have three grandchildren now and take a lot of pictures of them. I recently put a photo taken with my *istDS in the same photo contest I entered 3 years ago and won a $500 cash prize with it, so that helped offset the cost of the new camera! I still have a lot to learn about photography and joined a photography club here in Bloomington this spring. It has been a great experience so far. It is a great group of people who are willing to share experience and encouragement. I am starting to get the hang of the K10D and really like it so far.

Hi, I am also new to the forum. Just wanted to make a side note, my wife grew up in the Bloomington/Bloomfield area and was working on Walnut street for a financial planner until May '06 while I was in Korea. Her parents live out in the Deer Lake area between Bloomington/Bloomfield. Small world!
