Hi From WA State!

Hi,
I am not new to Pentax(former PZ-1P User) but will be getting my first DSLR (K10) very soon. I am very excited, I plan on doing some High school Senior portraits and getting into stock photography.

You'll love the k10, Kaelyn. There really isn't a "learning curve" to the camera (IMHO) but it does help to bear a few things in mind about its default settings compared to other brands of cameras. This camera is set to closely duplicate film and as such the contrast and saturation are not pumped up as they frequently are elsewhere. That sometimes puts folks off since they believe their images lack "pop" quality. You can go in and adjust these things along with sharpness but it's probably best to experiment and find what pleases you and most closely records the original in your view. Of course, some of this can be done in-camera and some done with post processing... it's your call. I just wanted you to be aware of this (as I'm sure you are). There have been a few folks here who received their new cameras and were disappointed for this very reason. Rather than learning "something new" they pulled the plug immediately and ran to another brand.

Anyway, welcome to the forum and all the best to you in your pursuit of your passion.

Thank-you James for the reply and the heads up! I have always loved Pentax and figure it's not the camera you use but the photographer who makes great pictures! I am just itching to start using the K10

It is a working steam engine that my dad made in a thimble! He made all the little parts and built it in the mid 80's It is sitting on a pocket watch in the picture.

Wow! Could you do a close-up of this? That's just an incredible thing your dad did. He must be a very talented person. I'd love to see it enlarged.

I am so proud that he is my dad! He is so talented, but in 96 he had a stroke, so now he cannot use his left hand to pick up little things, I feel so bad because he still has all the idea's that he comes up with, but he can't make most of them. He was the one who got me into my passion and gave me my first camera setup(Pentax!)

Sorry I couldn't reply earlier (had to go to work). What a talented dad you have there. When you think how small this is and yet how precisely it is fashioned... it's really quite marvelous. And your smart dad got you started with Pentax!

Anyway, thank you so much for taking this close-up. I'm showing it to my wife as soon as I'm finished writing this post.

All the best to you and give my regards to your dad.

Thank-you! He enjoys the reactions that he gets from people when they see it.
