Lenses for K-X

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum so please bear with me on posting. I recently purchased the K-x and so far I really enjoy using the camera. I purchased the bundle with the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm lenses. Can anyone recommend telephoto lenses and/or converters (reasonably priced) that work well with the K-x?

How much do you want to spend, and what do you want to shoot? The Lens Database section of the forum lists all Pentax lenses, and many others, with reviews. There are also several threads in the Lens Club section that have images for specific lenses. You might start there.

Thanks! Since I am just starting, I am looking to start low with pricing. I will check out the links you provided.

the two kit lenses are just fine...they are very capable lenses...some of my fav photos i made them with the 55-200...
So just go out and shoot.
If you feel that you still want an upgrade Tamron has some constant aperture zooms that are very well priced (the 17-50 or 28-75 for something like 350$ and the 70-200 for something like 750$ all of them exelent IQ and f2,8 max aperture).

Enjoy your equipment...you can use it for quite a long time before you outgrow it (so don't worry so much about gear for some months and shoot).

Welcome.

What are you trying to take pictures of that 200mm is too short for? Your intended use will influence which lenses you will be considering.

I am taking wildlife and landscape. It just seems that the 55-200mm does not get a close up like I was expecting. Do you think it may be in the settings that I am using? I am from the old SLR 35 mm era and really have no experience with the dslr only point and shoot. I expect a great deal of my issues are operator generated.

sell the 50-200 and get the 55-300 if you need the extra reach. Or you can buy the Tamron 70-300 a little cheaper. You can get the kit version of the 55-300 for about 200 on ebay without a hood. The regular version of the 55-300 is a bit more expensive.

I also have a question on interchangeable lenses. I have a Yashica FX-2 SLR. Can I purchase an adapter and use any of those lenses on the K-X?

It seems the only option is modification. Supposedly reversible.

No, there are no C/Y-PK adapters. The flange-focal-length (register) of each mount is too close, only 0.16mm difference.

I have modified several (inexpensive) C/Y lenses for PK mount. I use a Dremel blade to taper the lens' bayonet flags slightly, so they fit under the PK camera mount lugs. The lenses can still be used on C/Y cameras. However, this *is* a permanent mod that cuts metal, and can thus lower resale value. For more costly glass, a Leitax adaptation is smart.

And browse all the threads with KX and LENS, or 28-300, in the subject line.
