New to DSLR

Have been dying to get my hands on an old DSLR and after MANY hours searching online, I decided on a Pentax K200D. Sounded like a good camera to learn and grow with. Now all I need is a few lenses to play around with!

Welcome. I assume you at least have the kit lens to play around with?

I purchased it through Adorama and it comes with the 18-55mm lens. I've been told I will want to purchase a few more to play with.

Buy the 55-300. That will give you a great range to play with, 18-300. Play with that for a bit before you get the lens buying addiction like the rest of us. It is dangerous.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try to find a good used one to save $. The lens addiction could def be dangerous to the wallet. I catch myself looking at all kinds of misc accessories already....sigh.

There are two versions of the 55-300. The DA L and the DA. The optics are the same but the DA has a superior build and the quick shift feature, and a hood. The DA L can be had for 200 in eBay, but look here on the forums first for either version.

I've been scouring and this forum for the zoom lens. The prime lens mentioned to me from another friend....said she couldn't live without hers, lol. Not sure if I can manage fully manual yet, prob should at least keep the "A"....thinking?? I'm ok with manual focus. So far, ebay prices seem to go to the extreme end price wise. Maybe I will luck up soon . Thanks for all the suggestions. I def need all the help I can get!!

You will spend a lot more for the A lens, but it may be worth it to you, it opens up the use of all camera modes. It could take awhile to get the lenses from either source, but be patient.

There are a ton of A50 1.7s on the market. The cheapest I saw was 69.99 OBO without caps. I think the lens is worth that or more. It will cost you a lot more to go autofocus anything.

The price variance is shocking to say the least. This alone is good reason to learn AP manually. I am such a slow learner though.

A fast 50 is an invaluable tool. It is worth a bit of investment, and the A50/1.7 is cheaper than most things you'll pick up. The nice thing is they made so many of them in the film days they are comparatively cheap. It will really round out your kit. You will have from 18-300, have a great portrait lens, and be able to handle low light. I would recommend a long break from lens buying after you pick up these three though. It's bad when you get the bug.
