Hi y'all from the "badlands of Iowa"

Hi there!
I just purchased a used Pentax K200D DSLR this last week. Loving it, upgraded from cheapo point & shoot digital cameras that kept dying on me.

I do have a fairly large problem today though. Bought the camera off ebay, got everything that was advertised for it (cords, lenses, etc.) but didn't get the software disc. Can I transfer picture files without the disc, or is it a must?

When i plug my camera into the computer it isn't recognizing the SD card, which is sometimes how I would transfer images in the past. I downloaded the manual from Pentax's website but still am not clear on what needs to happen to get my pics...suggestions?

THANKS in advance to any helpful souls out there!

Welcome.
Yes you can still transfer photos. I would suggest forgetting about the USB cable completely. Remove the card, put it in a card reader, and treat them as any other files.

Thanks Jim, I think I figgered out part of the problem, I had the camera settings on RAW, so maybe that was the problem. I switched it up to JPEG & the computer immediately recognized the SD card.
Does the cord plugging & unplugging wear out something on the camera, more than card popping? I'm such a newbie, I had to ask...

BTW, I see you're from South Dakota, anywhere near Sioux Falls?

Badlands of Iowa???

Are there any? The worstlands of Iowa are as least as good as the bestlands of the surrounding states!

Except for hills and lakes maybe.

I'm tempted to report you to ...to.....uhh...I dunno who...nevermind

Lordy I wish we had some badlands or maybe an ocean or even a beach...

But I clearly recall once driving from Montana thru a bit of Wyoming & South Dakota. Crossing the Missouri was like jumping from parched barren hell to into Eden.

A heavily fertilized Eden maybe but just say'n..

Sure aren't a lot of Iowa photo-ops if it is illegal to photograph Corn & Beans. Do you know if the stupid law about farm photos passed?

Welcome to the forum Laura.
I'm sure you'll find it both entertaining and educational here.
The K200D is a great camera, and even weather-sealed.
Enjoy the forum and your photography.
