istDs to K7 or K5

Started lurking this forum for the lens reviews and to check out the marketplace for K7/K5. I love Pentax gear and dislike where Canon and Nikon have taken the market. I only wish that Pentax would take OUT the video from the SLR's. Keep it simple and clean and there will always be a market for it.

Welcome aboard, wherever you are. (Or is that THE Beltway?) Whatever its qualities, video sells cameras, and Pentax sells cameras, so Pentax cams will support video. Newer ones than my K20D do, anyway. Such is life. Even my cheapest oldest 1.1mpx P&S shoots video of a sort. (Silent 320x240 AVI's, groovy!) Welcome to the New World Order, where you can have anything you want, as long as you want the right stuff. Cheers!

My first dSLR was from the *ist series, I took a detour at the Leica offramp and then took a left at the K5 expressway. The video feature was not the selling point to me, it's a nice feature to have although it is not as mature as the competition. I'm mostly interested in high iso capabilities and the in body SR.

I have used a 60D, 7D, D90, D300, and D7000, K-5, K-7, K-r. All of them I feel are super cameras. however unless you need Video I like the K-7 and K-5 because of the size, weight and the way they fit to your hand. Unless you need video which you don't, IMO the best "camera" (not for video) on the market at the very moment is the K-5 with the high ISO, and superb colour depth, more FPS(than the Nikon), better image quality, and many other "non-video" functions that make it for best DSLR, APS-C sized sensor on the market today. the K-7 is a wonderful camera however the K-5 is the by a long shot the better of the two and improves upon all of the properties that made the K-7 so desireable. IMO
