Howdy from Brisbane

Hello there, Just picked up my first dSLR, the Pentax K-r, with the 18-55 kit lens, but am looking for a cheap macro. Any suggestions?

Cheers

Are you game for manual focus lenses?

If so, here are a few candidates:
Pentax-A 50mm F2.8 Macro Reviews - A Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database
Pentax-M 50mm F4 Macro Reviews - M Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

Otherwise, I'd recommend this lens, new:
AF272P700 Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di 1:1 AF Macro Auto Focus Lens for Pentax AF - with 6 Year USA Warranty

Thanks for the info.

I've found the 50mm f1.4 Super-Tak quite fun to use, so manual lenses are not a problem, but the Tak's not the best for macro work.

Welcome to the forum. I keep thinking I need a macro too (LBA?), but I'll try the extension tubes and reverse adapter until next year.

Cheers erdels, how macro do you want?
1.2 macro ratio
Volna 9, a lovely piece of Soviet technology, 50mm f2.8 M42 mount.
Tamron 90 f2.5 Adaptall 2 mount so either buy with adapter attached or factor in appropriate pricing.
Sub $200 buys
1.1 macro ratio
All the derivatives of the Kiron 105mm f2.8, the Vivitar series 1 version at f2.5, the Kiron or the dentist lens, the Lester Dine @ f2.8, all will please and on the right day you might even have change of $300.
Macro tubes, courtesy of Ebay, $20.
