Recently joined and my inherited gear

Hi There

I have recently inherited the following equipment and I am planning on getting a K-5 to use the M42 lenses on. I grew up with a Pentax SV but shamefully went to canon for a DSLR. Any advice on the gear below would be great it all seems to be in good condition.

Ashai Pentax SV
Ashai Pentax Spotmatic II
Nikkormat N with 50mm Nikor-S Auto 1:1.4 50mm
Leica Modell IIIb Sunmar f-5cm 1:2 and Elmar f-9cm 1:4
Praktica MLT3
Ilford Advocate with f/4.5 35mm
Zeiss Ikon with Zeis Tesa 1:2.8 8cm lens
Voigllander Compur Camera

SMC Takumar 1:1.4 50mm
Super Takumar 1:1.8 55mm
Carl Zeis 1:2.8 28mm
Pentacon Auto 1.8 50mm
Ashai Super Takumar 1:3.5 35mm
Ashai Teletakumar 1:5.6 200mm
Palinar Wide Angle 1:2.8 25mm
Ashai Takumar 1:2.8/105mm
Ashai SMC Takumar 1:3.5/135mm
Photax 1:8 500mm
Hanimex 1:5.5 f=300mm

Thanks

Welcome aboard! And that's some serious muscle you have there, with an excellent M42 kit. Of course you won't need the non-M42 gear. But I find it hard to part with inherited cameras, because they link me to a previous generation. They're my heritage. YMMV. Cheers!

Welcome!

Check out this and you should know what to expect with a K-5 (or most any Pentax DLSR) when using the Takumars and other older (Pentax-M and the like) lenses: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-beginners-corner-q/110658-using-ma...x-dslrs-f.html.

Some pretty amazing lenses - I would expect them to fetch quite an amount as long as they are in good condition. To be honest there are few lenses that I would rather NOT sell if I were you - THse I would keep :
SMC Takumar 1:1.4 50mm
Ashai Super Takumar 1:3.5 35mm
Ashai Takumar 1:2.8/105mm

and this one I would test first before deciding :
Palinar Wide Angle 1:2.8 25mm

Good luck with your sale !

Nice lens group there - there will always be a buyer and if you miss any one or two of them you can always buy them back :-)

Might want to try a body with focus peaking (K-01 / K-30 / K-50 / K-3) before giving up on them? Just a thought...

Welcome aboard! That's quite the collection. Some of those older cameras are really pretty, too.

You might consider installing a split focus screen like on the old lenses. Or at least replace with the ee-s screen, I've read that's good. This will help your manual focusing. I had a splitscreen in the K10, which worked well, but I haven't done so with the K5. If I buy a K3 eventually, I'll probably get a splitscreen for the K5 and do more manual work with it.

Hum, folks, the OP joined in 2011! He just updated this old thread to tell us that he'll now be selling his MF lens collection. I mean, nice of you all to welcome him again, but perhaps a tad unnecessary?
