Hello from Baltimore

Hi Guys,

I thought I'd drop in and say hi. I use to be a Pentax user and am getting back into things after both Sony and Nikon have not produced results to my expectation.

Welcome back (to the brand, or to the Forums, or both? whichever).

It might be enlightening to some of us to know what the issues with Sony and Nikon were. I read somewhere here the other day, of a Pentax user moving to Sony because of the lack of a 35mm sensor, so they might be well apprised of your reasons for moving back.

Thanks, and I can go over my reasons for leaving Sony and Nikon and coming back.

I had a Nikon D90, and I just wasn't happy with the system overall. The lenses were decent at best, and I had some early to mid-2000 professional grade lenses. The image quality wasn't what I was expecting. Surprisingly a good amount of noise that I wasn't used to coming from the Pentax K10D. Also, I just didn't like that handling of that camera. Too small and too much plastic. It felt like I had a toy in my hand.

Then, I moved to the Sony A560. This is definitely a better camera than the Nikon D90. It handles pretty well and has good build quality. However, my biggest qualm with it is the actual image quality, which is better than the D90 in my opinion, but the colors just aren't the same as how Pentax processes them. Pentax-produced images just have more of a color punch. The video mode is nice though, but that's not really important if the camera isn't great. Finally, the deal breaker for Sony systems for me: lens selection. The lenses aren't great; the Sony ones are ok and the Zeiss double-branded ones are just a tad bit better, but so much more expensive. I'm also a pretty heavy prime shooter, so Sony's prime line up is also not good for me and very lacking. Nikon's was a bit better, but I don't think anything can beat Pentax's prime line up. Just give me the DA 40mm/2.8 Limited, and I"m good to go for most of the day.

Welcome back, and nice of you to share your experience with us. I was about to switch to Nikon (twice!), and in the end I decided to stay with my beloved K-x after looking at many, many pics taken with Nikon and Pentax cameras on It seems I just like Pentax more
