Funny, what has pentax more to do with manual lenses than any other camera company? I mean, before Pentax ME-F, all SLR were manual focus...
Anyway welcome, and don't hesitate to ask any question is appropriate threads and forums.

heh yeah for some reason whenever I'm researching some manual lens something from this forum turns up in the search engine results, probably because I was looking at m42 lenses

Welcome to the forums! You want to talk M42 lenses? We do so extensively here. And M39s and conversions and other great old glass. But it's hard to beat an Asahi Pentax Takumar.

It is normal, even on the celebrated Limited FA lenses, but easily fixed with LightRoom or similar post-processing software. Chromatic aberration (fringing of various colours) was only controllable to a certain degree with older glass. Modern lens designs tend to use low-dispersion glass that limits the problem even more than the clever optical designs previously employed to address it.
