Newbie from South Australia

Finally getting around to my intro I'm finally getting back into photography and will have my first DSLR delivered shortly. My last film camera was the MZ5N, which I LOVED. My new camera is the K7 and I'm pretty excited. I'm mainly interested in wildlife but will be playing around with landscapes as well.

Funny you should mention chimps, I'm a primatologist and moved from QLD down to Adelaide to do my PhD research at Adelaide Zoo. I'm now up in Renmark.

I was trying to be funny but I'm glad there was some element of truth to it... So what's up there at Renmark re Primates? (apart from the locals) Another attempt a a joke...

Since I'm an ex pat QLDer I have to be careful about the jokes I make about the South Australians When I moved to Renmark I did a lot of work with the capuchins here at Bredls wildlife park. The park has now closed and monkeys moved out so I'm inching my way out of SA! Before I do though I'm going to find some decent places up here to photograph and also practise some storm photography.

Damn shame a that.. where did the monkeys end up? Also, so you're leaving and heading back to QLD then? So it's like "Hello I must be going" then? 8-(

Monkeys were split between two zoos and are doing well. We aren't leaving here yet, my partner is trying to get into the army so when he gets into regular we'll see what happens, could end up anywhere. Been in Renmark for about three and a half years, would like to do Tassie for a while but don't think that will happen.

How does a Primatologist with (almost) a PHD get involved with (almost) a soldier? Sounds like he's pretty good at tactics though ;-)

Common interests I guess. He also 18 years younger than me He's been a handy research assistant though, don't have to fork out any cash for payment

I'm a fair way from there, Renmark is near Mildura. I plan on taking a few trips west though.

Welcome. Renmark used to be good for gliding if that's your thing.. you could get some good aerial photos.

Welcome to the forum. If you're really interested in monkeys then Canberra might be the place for you....

I actually lectured at ANU for a semester on primate biology and ecology and had the students do field projects at the National Zoo. I was really impressed, their animals are very well cared for and the grounds are lovely. I LOVED Canberra and would happily live there. Since lecturing there though I have had some decline in health (autoimmune problems) and am now on disability. I hope to get back to teaching and research though, but won't be able to do full time.
