Macro Lens for Pentax K-7

Hi All
Just an old guy trying to fill in his retirement with a hobby he loves but does not fully understand ,I wish to purchase a dedicated macro lens for my K-7 ,,,but which one??? .
The photo's I see on this site are just great and that's what I'm aiming for.
I will now get in quick and say sorry in advance for any dumb questions I ask in the future.
Best wishes to all
Ron

Hi Ron,

I'm going to go ahead and move this to the slr lens forum.

Here are your options if you're looking for a new lens:

Pentax-D FA 50mm F2.8 Macro Reviews - D FA Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database
Pentax-D FA 100mm F2.8 Macro WR Reviews - D FA Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database
Tamron SP AF 90mm F2.8 Di Macro Lens Reviews - Tamron Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
Sigma 70mm F2.8 EX DG Macro Lens Reviews - Sigma Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens Reviews - Sigma Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database (more reviews here)

Here you can read a bit more about the Pentax 100mm macro, which is the one I'd recommend as it's compact and extremely sharp, and it's also weather-sealed:

What focal length to use depends on your shooting space and targets. A 28-35-50mm puts you very close to small subjects but fills the frame easily with moderate subjects -- these are mostly for small studio work. A 90-100-105mm probably doesn't scare away most bugs, although my mantids leave if I use anything shorter than 150mm. The 150-200mm macros give you even more working room. Yes, 90-200mm are more for field work. I don't usually use 70-75mm for macros but I'd rate those focal lengths for a larger studio, or for stuff in the field that won't run away.

If you want to shoot actual macro stuff (at 1:2 magnification and beyond) then AF is not your friend. A dedicated AF lens is a multipurpose tool -- for macros, yes, but also for portraits or whatever. For just shooting macro, a manual lens will suit your needs. Also see https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-lens-articles/152336-cheap-macro-b...lose-work.html. Have fun!
