Just rejoining the Pentax world after a break of a few years. Based in North East Scotland, now retired and was a regular Pentax user from about 1980 to 2002. Then lapsed into digital mode with Fuji, but kept much of my Pentax film kit, mostly for sentimental reasons. Been looking out for a cheapish Pentax digital body to be able to use some of that old Pentax kit, and just got a rather battered istDS. Beginning to get the hang of it, using an old K series f2.8 Soligor 200mm to record our resident red squirrel.
Will probably need some advice, and spare bits for the ist as it gets more familiar.

Welcome, Dick.

You obviously believe in starting at the beginning, buying an istDS (well, near to it, anyway). I occasionally pick up my *istD (bought new for what seems an extraordinary sum of money, now) and take a few shots, mostly with the older glass, because both the camera and those lenses force you to slow down a bit, just like in the film era. If you're that way inclined, too, there's plenty of good glass to be had on a slim budget: a lot of it traded here. You'll find plenty of good help here, so jump in and ask, show and tell.

Welcome aboard (and back to Pentax). Shooting with the old glass is one way I force myself to slow down and take more time with my photography. Going back to Manual mode and manual focus when I've used auto everything for years has been more challenging than I remember it 20 years ago We've got lots of resources here and some pretty helpful people too. Hope you enjoy your istDS.
