Newbie

Just joined. Looks like this forum is full of info. Will be picking up a new K5 tomorrow and already have a KR. Really into nature pics, not much else.

New to DSLR but had several SLR film cameras years ago.

Have one question however. There are lots of old Pentax primes available at reasonable prices. How can I tell if they fit the K mount, and if not,

what sort of an adaptor is required and where could it be obtained. ? Thanks

John A.

They won't need an adapter unless they're screwmount lenses, which are found under the M42 category here:
Pentax Reviews - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

All the lenses above that category are K-mount and don't need an adapter.

Third party lenses are also listed here:

Third-Party Lenses for Pentax - Pentax Lens Review Database

And this is the M42 adapter:

While I'm at it here's how to use lenses with it and how to meter with manual lenses, and which lens series are manual:

Welcome to the forum, John. I picked up a couple of adapters here in the Marketplace The Pentax Marketplace | Sell Pentax | Photographic Equipment for Sale - PentaxForums.com. Lots of old lenses here too!
I suggest going with a genuine one, as found here Pentax Mount Adapter K reviews - Pentax Camera Accessories: Database and Reviews.
