I am new to the forms and to the k-r trying to learn how to advance past the auto pic. mode any tips would be great thanks.

Welcome to the forum, mids911. I hesitate to say this, because for me it resulted in a lot of bad shots at first, but set your camera to Av and take a bunch of shots, Tv &etc. and Sv &etc., just to see what happens. The saving grace of digital is that you can delete all the bad ones! PS, I'm still pretty new at this, and still get lots of bad shots.
