Return to Pentax after 40 years

Hello everyone. Just bought a K5, my first Pentax since the early1970's when I had a Spotmatic. I got tempted away from the brand when I started my career in the AV industry when only Nikon were producing the pin registered cameras needed for slide animation. Anyway I'm back and waiting for the weather to improve a bit here on the south coast of England to really explore the camera.

Strangely enough I bought my K5 almost by accident last week - I'd recently bought an Olympus E-P3 mirrorless as a walk round but within a week the mode dial fell off, took it back & exchanged it for another which proved to have the same problem. Lost faith in Olympus & spotted a K5 in the store, noticed it wasn't that much larger than the E-P3 & seemed bulletproof so I gave up on Olympus and got the K5 with 18-55 kit. Had it about a week now - what an amazing bit of kit! I'm going out in the next few days to look at an extra lens or two. Cheers Chris

Hi Chris.

Welcome to the forum, the K-5 is a great camera and I'm sure you will enjoy it.
Where on the South coast are you? ... I am just outside Christchurch/Bournemouth

Hi Mike. I'm just outside Portsmouth. Any suggestions as to which local retailer has a good range of Pentax kit. Jessops dont seem very well stocked at the moment.

Used to live in Portsmouth as a kid. (Seems like such a long time ago now)

I have one local retailer but generally use SRSmicrosystems. They are Pentax pro dealers so you get a 2 year warranty and if you join the other (UK) Pentax forum you get free postage as well.

Welcome to the forum and welcome back to Pentax! You'll really enjoy the K-5 -- would get one immediately if I could, myself. About the weather, well unless it's like really horrible the K-5's got enough shell on it to withstand that. happy shooting!
