Hello, I'm new in the Pentax Forum. I'm a keen amateur photografer with no special field of interest but I truly enjoy a good picture that speaks to you.
I had an MX in my youth with 40 mm and 100 mm lenses, but something broke down within in the early 2000:s
For a while I pretended to be happy with a Fuji FinePix A500, but that also broke down after a few years
In 2007 I bought a K10D with the standard DA 18-55 mm, which still surpises me with its nice pictures. Two years later I bought a DA 50-200 mm which disappointed me for a long time until I realized I had to consistently overexpose (+1 at 50 mm and +2 at 200 mm). After that I realised that even my 18-55 lens benefited from an overexposure of +1 at 55 so they matched, so the problem was consistent across the lenses. Noone has sofar been able to explain the phenomenon to me. Both lenses produce really good pictures if I remembher to set the EV value correctly. Of course, that can be adjusted afterwards but I disllkie doing it for hundreds of pictures. I have really too little patience for spending time with photo editing software.
Last year I treated myself to a DA* 55 mm F/1.4 with the potential for amazing portraits. However, with a small depth of field I kept getting the autofocus behind what I really had aimed at and I blamed myself until I stumbled across a random opponent in Wordfeud who happened to be a Pentax enthusiast. His user name was Pentaxpentax so it wasn't a long shot to ask if he liked Pentax
He pointed in the right direction and I realize that my camera suffered from backfocus which could be adjusted if I could only figure out how to open the debug menue, which I eventually did at 2 o'clock one Sunday morning. Now, I get those amazing portrait
With the DA* 55 mm lens I do not have that exposure problem, and I just can't understand why the light sensor in my K10D makes different judgements depending on which lens and which focal lenght is in front of it
One reason could be that my old K10D is just faulty.
So, my K10D is 5 years old and has done a good job. In addition I just came across just the right amount of money for upgrading to a K-5 and if nothing unexpected occurs today I will be the proud owner of such a K-5 tonight.
