Just went over to Pentax..

Hi all,
I'm Hannes, from Estonia (no need to get more specific, Estonia is so small).
I just got myself a barely used K5 almost a month ago. I have been using Olympus E-500 for six years and now it was time to move on. Cameras have developed a lot meanwhile.
I got my camera with the kit lens and bought a M42 adaptor right away to try out the Helios 44-M from my old Zenit. As it appeared to have trouble with aperture blades, I tried to find another cheap prime and struggled to M 35/2.8, which is quite ok. Thinking of the forthcoming warm season, I also got a DA 55-300 to go to forest with.
I had a Sigma 30mm F1.4 HSM as a universal lens on my Olympus (a bit narrow, but usable) which I really got keen on and I haven't found the same lens on aftermarket for my K5 yet. So far I feel I'm still missing the right lens to go around with. Maybe it's just that I haven't got used to the K5 yet. Maybe it's about weather. I haven't done head-to-head comparison with the two cameras, but so far the images I've got from Olympus with the lenses I have seem to be more contrasty than the ones shot with K5 with the lenses I have. Not talking about the overall image quality and the details, of course..
So I'm still learning to shoot with Pentax.

Don't have a K5. I have 6 - 12 mp Pentaxes . But if your not doing PP, boost your contrast in camera some.

Good luck!

Thank you for the warm welcome
I am doing some post processing (with Lightroom). Though last times with my Olympus I gave up shooting RAW and went with JPEG instead, because RAWs take up a lot of disk space and I could do all the PP I needed on JPEG pretty well. I've also tried to boost contrast in the camera but I still haven't got the result I would want.
I did a shot of my desk with both cameras: Index of /comp
They are not 100% images, but these wouldn't be necessary in this case. K5 one is shot with M 35/2.8 lens at F5.6 ISO1600 and the E-500 one with Sigma 30/1.4 lens at F2.8 ISO400, shutter speed is the same 1/15 sec. The ISO difference, of course, is because the ISO performances of the cameras are incomparable. Both are show in RAW, no other post-processing, just matching white balance.
As you can see the image from Olympus is more contrasty. I boosted contrast a bit on K5 image (k5pp.jpg) to get it similar to E-500. The tonality in the image from the latter is still naturally warmer. Could it be because of the lens?
I have tried to play around with the settings on K5 but haven't yet achieved a satisfying result in this matter.

Maybe I should have started a new thread on that

P.S. The sun is out, so I should take both cameras and shoot a bit.

Welcome to the forum tunehall.

I know you will enjoy the K-5 once you learn your way around it. I have had my K-5 for a month, and I am very happy with the images it is producing.

I am going to be in Tallinn for one day in June, my first time in Estonia, so I am looking forward to seeing your country - it is a long way from New Zealand :-)

Enjoy your photography,
