Hello and a question from Emerald City.

So, hello! My name is Tim Brown, and I'm a graduate student at the University of Washington where I study and teach philosophy. In my spare time, I play (bass) guitar, play with skill toys (yo-yos predominantly), and—of course—shoot photos.

I've been shooting with the same Pentax *ist D for the last 6-7 years now; I use a Pentax-A 50mm f/1.4 on a regular basis, and I haven't been able to buy anything new for some time now. I love to shoot manual, I like to keep things simple/minimal, and I (seemingly by default) try to do things "old-school."

Any other grads out there? (;

Welcome from another relative newcomer to the site. I originally learned about photography shooting full manual because that's all my old Praktica 35mm camera would do! We have something else in common too, I was born in Seattle, but a while back.

My school was Cal Poly Pomona, for an EE degree, but that was a long time back, too!

Enjoy, this seems to be a great place with friendly and knowledgeable people.

Thanks, Joe!

I wasn't born here in Seattle—I was born in Los Angeles. (; Interesting how we end up floating from one place to the next. Cal Poly Pomona is a great little campus; just the sort of place I wouldn't mind teaching at.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
