I live in Camp Union, near Bremerton in Washington State. Think of Seattle, not the US capital. I am a retired US government Civil Service employee. For many years, I worked as an optical instrument technician. I started very young in my grandfathers’ lab and progressed in the field, through many interesting jobs, in locations all over the world. Technical photography was part of my early education and as the years passed, I developed some interest in fine art photography. I was fortunate to have been able to use a wide range of fine government owned equipment and materials that would not normally be available to the public.
Over the years, I collected some rare and unusual cameras that have since been donated. I personally owned some very nice cameras and lenses. I built a few high quality large format cameras, owned a Hasselblad and several Leica rangefinder cameras; my last one was the M3. In the mid sixties, I started using Pentax SLR cameras and Takumar lenses and still have a Pentax Spotmatic, Pentax LX and a few Lenses.
After retirement in 1993, I didn’t do much photography, with the exception of a 1999 motorcycle trip to Ireland, the Isle of Man, Northern England and Scotland where I used the LX with a 35~105 Pentax zoom lens. I found that the cost for film and processing was more than my reduced income would allow. I looked at digital cameras and was very disappointed with what was and still is available to me with my limited income. I got a Nikon point and shoot digital camera and was never happy with it. Following the Nikon, I got a Panasonic and liked that better, but still not enough to get back into “picture making“. I find it hard to call digital image capture and computer manipulation of the file, “photography”. The tiny size and light weight of most of the cameras are for me very difficult to use. My hands are not what they use to be and I have a time gripping things. I have to use a tripod most of the time.
Recently I have had some health problems that keep me from doing some of my more “active” activities. Hopefully that’s not a long-term situation. Therefore, picture making is back on, at least for now. I bought a Sony NEX C3 mirrorless, interchangeable lens digital camera with the idea that I could use all of my old lenses. To get around the lack of size and weight, I made an aluminum mounting plate with big grips and a sturdy universal lens mount. It is still a work in progress.
I am looking for a broken telephoto lens for a 35mm film camera.
Glass and aperture setting is unimportant. All I need is a good focusing shell to adapt an old high altitude, reconnaissance camera lens to my present camera. A 200 to 500 MM focal length Pentax K mount is preferred but I can do machine work to convert almost anything. A zoom lens will not work. I will not pay a lot but I have other camera gear to trade. Maybe other stuff as well.
