Hello from North Texas

Hey PF. I'm finally getting into the DSLR world after learning to shoot with my fathers ancient AT-1 manual camera. I've got a 4 month old baby and given the expensive nature of film and developing costs I figured I'd get a DSLR so I can afford to take lots of photos of my family. Hope to learn a lot from the forum especially about all of the different brands for lenses and their typical quality.

Oh, sorry, forgot to mention I've been looking at getting a body (already found the one I want in the marketplace) and a bunch of different glass. Any help negotiating the waters of non-pentax lens makers.
