30 Year Sabbatical

Hi all, today I just bought my next camera, the blue K-30 with the 18-135 lens kit. It's my first proper & Pentax camera for 30 years. I used to take motocross pictures for the Motorcycle News, a UK national off road weekly, when I was a teen...only as an amateur but had a handful printed. That was with my trusty old k1000 and I still have the kit in the garage! Since then it's just been one compact after another.

Today, after a nice bonus from work, I decided to treat myself and spent a few hours on here making my mind up.

Being Pentax helped my soppy side but the specs, reviews and the looks really finalized it for me.

Should take delivery in the next few days and I just can't wait.

Cheers all, Manic (Mike)

Congrats and welcome. I've been reading everything that people post on this site about the K-30 and I'm probably a month or so away from pulling the trigger myself (I've gone back and forth between K-5 and K-30 several times). I have a K200D that I quite like but better autofocus and better low-light performance are things I've been wanting for quite a while now...

The K-30 is the best offering that Pentax has at the moment and a very solid camera. I hope you enjoy it. Keep in mind, your old glass should work fine with it.

Yep, that's one of the larger benefits with Pentax. Just be mindful of lenses that are not actually from Pentax. Ricoh lenses especially. They have a non-standard pin that can get caught on new DSLRs.

I assume the K1000 is a bayonet mount, but if it isn't there is an adapter for M42 screwmount lenses that goes for around $35.
