Hello from West Virginia USA

Hello all I am really glad I found this site.
I bought my first SLR in the early 1980's it was a Sears and I really liked it. I acquired an assortment of lenses and filters, and took some classes. Later I bought a Pentax ME. I became a fair amateur photographer. Did a couple of weddings for family members, vacation photos etc. I often prefered to shoot in full manual. Then digital came along and I purchased a Pentax istD. It was the first and only time I bought an electronic gadget way too soon and overpaid for something that would be quicky improved while the price dropped. I usually wait.

Anyway I never seemed to get my brain transfered to digital and the istD is practically unused. I bought a Fuji compact digital for snapshots, I never really tried out much of the features on the Fuji either and my interest in photography faded. One of the reasons I never did much with the Fuji is I will never get used to composing a shot by looking at the back of a camera. I want to look thru the lens.

Now I have retired and having more time I am thinking about doing more photography. I was considering purchasing another DSLR when I found this site and started reading the reviews. Though the istD is primitave, compared to current technology, it may be all I really need now to try to learn more about digital photography.

I wonder if any books are out there that deal with making the mental switch from film to digital?

Anyway this looks like a great site.

Welcome to the forum, remember google is your friend so just do a quick search on going from film to digital photography and I think you'll find a myriad of books on the subject.

I have a studio in Putnam and am looking to build or adapt to a new one in downtown Charleston within the next six months.

One of the very few sad things about being even an intermediate camera user in the 304 state is the relatively small amount of places that one can actually find a camera. This year spelled the end of Charleston's two last remaining cameras stores; Ritz and Merrill.

Welcome to the forum, and when in public (especially in and around Charleston (maybe) be sure to look out for a photographer carrying an extra large yellow LowePro backpack
