Long Time Pentax User from Winnipeg, Canada

I have been following the Pentax Forum for a few months now & finally decided to join. I have used Pentax equipment since the early 1980's (Super Program & K-1000) and didn't jump into the digital world until 2007. Since then, I picked up a K-7 in 2010 and a few lens along the way. I tend to be a more "generalist" type of photographer, shooting landscape, wildlife, macro, streetscape etc. I still use film time to time during the sub -10C days of the Canadian winters.

At this point, I am looking to upgrading my K-7 to improve on the auto-focus and ISO performance and will have to evaluate the pros and cons between the K-30, K5II & K5IIs. Looking forward to your reviews.

Welcome to a fellow Manitoban! I actually live in the Northern region of the province but frequent Winnipeg quite often. Great city.

Thanks for the greetings everyone. A Winnipeg Pentax user meeting sounds good .. count me in

PS As a follow-up to my first post, I finally decided to get a K5II ; as per the reviews, great low light level focusing and high ISO performances.

I am a south end Winnipegger that just registered at this forum. I should have done it a long time ago being a very long term Pentax user. As a teenager in the late 60s I used a Spotmatic and eventually acquired a K1000. I have an M5n, had a K100 D until it broke recently and currently have a K20 and a new K30 to replace the broken K100. I would appreciate learning about other people's experiences with these cameras and am wondering if there are occasional meetings in Winnipeg or does everyone find that the forum suffices?

ALl you have to know about the K30 and K20D, is, the K20D is great in sunlight, but if you need dynamic range, as in you're going to boost some shadows, use the K-30. Shadow detail is the K20D's weak point.

I stayed in Winnipeg for 10 days once 30 years ago, all I remember is the Winnepeg Zoo, the Man with the Golden Balls, and Portage and Main.

Interesting that you comment on the dynamic range because that was going to be my first question. I have felt that the K100 provided better dynamic range than the K20 and wondered if I was mistaken. Thanks for the comment.
