New Pentax Q owner and forum member
Hi,
My name is Steve, and I just bought a new Pentax Q with the standard prime lens from Amazon for $399. (It'll be here tomorrow!) I considered buying one when they first came out, as I thought it would make a great carry-around-everywhere camera, but it was more than I wanted to spend at the time. Kind of forgot about it, and the other day saw what they were priced at and decided to pull the trigger. I prefer shooting with prime lenses instead of zooms, and liked the style of the Q vs. the new Q10.
I've been a photography enthusiast for a long, long time, and have owned everything from medium format cameras (Bronica ETRS, Rolleiflex 2.8GX) to 35 mm SLRs (Contax, Nikon) to Digital SLRs (Pentax K10D). A couple of years ago I decided it was time to sell off most of my older equipment and simplify. So I sold just about everything and bought a demo Leica 8.2 with 28 mm lens, the idea being that would be my only camera. It's great and has forced me to rethink how I shoot, and I've been very happy with the results.
Now I'll have the Pentax Q as my small camera (not that the Leica is big.) I'm really looking forward to using it. I see from the roadmap Pentax has out that maybe next year they will release a wide angle prime lens for that, which I'd really love to have. I tend to shoot more on the wide side than telephoto.
Sorry if this was so lengthy, but I guess I got a little carried away. (By the way, I did love the K10D - and I had a couple of the great Pentax primes for it - I do miss those.)
Steve
