Hello!

I'm very excited to find this forum packed with so much useful information!

Recently, I was at a trade show in Ottawa ON Canada called Exposure hosted by Henry's. Maybe some of you were there this past weekend :-)

I had a lengthy talk with a Pentax rep and he really sold me on the history (Hoya and Ricoh involvement) and the future of Pentax brand. He answered all my questions and I was pretty hyped about Pentax bodies with their in-body SR that allows old M42's to be extra useful, and the weather resistant designs. I even got to play with a 645D. :-)

I then went over to the Nikon booth and was promptly brushed off by their rep. I know that trade show reps are hit and miss, but I was really surprised when the guy just walked away on me.

I've been a Nikon shooter not because of brand loyalty, but because of lens re-usability. After a bit of gear rationalization, I'm now down to a D700 main and a D300 backup with a couple of lenses. Nothing big in terms of assets if I wanted to switch brands. I shoot semi-pro doing a lot of portraits with this gear. I'm now considering a K-30 or a used K-5 as a replacement for my aging D300.

Hoping to get as familiar with Pentax system as I am with Nikon.

Thanks for your post and I'd suggest the K-5 over the K-30 ... for the top LCD, grip compatible, etc.
