Hello, everyone

I'm very pleased to see (and join) a community of individuals who share extremely useful information about Pentax cameras and lenses.

After spending months researching online and borrowing a Nikon D5100, I've decided to pull the trigger and purchase my first DSLR - a K-5. After falling in love with the extraordinary pictures out of the D5100, I had placed the K-5 as my absolute top pick (over the Canon 7D and Nikon D7000) for its low light performance. My background is in the SLR Pentax Super ME cameras and have a boatload of M lenses I'd like to take advantage of (understanding that the K-5 is going to need some hints, but I'm willing). My new K-5 is getting ready to ship - I'm chomping at the bit to start shooting stills. I'm a firm believer in the SMC line of glass, so I had no hesitation to step up to Pentax DSLR

The K-5 was the buydig Black Friday special and came with the DA 50-200mm ED WR zoom lens. That leaves close-ups without a lens, so I'm on the hunt for a prime or zoom lens that will be suitable until I fully absorb the cost of the K-5/lens (I don't think my wife will let me drop another grand on some lenses I'm interested in). Anyway, I thank you all (in advance) for your patience for my novice questions regarding the melding of vintage lenses (including the M 50 f1.4) and the K-5. I'm ready to start swimming!

Welcome aboard! Check out the Tamron macro lens, which is an affordable option for close-ups:

You can easily use M lenses on your Pentax DSLR if you follow these instructions:

Thank you for the help. Although I may think that $450 is a great price, I don't know if my wife will be on board yet. She choked on the price I paid for the K-5 "There are cameras for forty or fifty dollars all over..."
