Greetings from Sydney, Australia

Hi all, "first time posting, long time follower
Couple of weeks I purchased used Pentax gear from a very nice fellow in Sydney. Now I am a happy owner of following
Pentax K-5
Pentax 16-50
Pentax 50-135
SMC Pentax M 50mm f/1.4

Didnt get to shoot much outdoors yet due to time constraints and weather here.

Previously I owned Olympus system ( E-500, E-3, 35mm Macro, Oly 12-60 f/2.8-4, Oly 50-200 f/2.8-3.5, Zuiko 50mm f/1.8, Oly 18-180 f/3.5-6.3) which i was very happy with day light/sports/home functions/picnic/landscape shoots.

So why this change?
Better IQ obviously . Also I was attracted to higher sensitivity these new systems now offer for indoor shoots.

Why not Nikon or Canon?
Hmmm why not Toyota or Honda ? ............every one drives it cause they are good. I like to drive Saab. I am sold onto system which offer in body image stabilization. Lens are more affordable.

Before settling onto Pentax K-5 i tried Nikon D7000 with Nikon 50mm f/1.8, Nikon 12-24mm f/4 and Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 with SB-600 Speedlight Flash (from my brother). This system was miles ahead from my Oly E-3 gear in every aspect and the Flashlight OMG works like charm. With 50mm f1.8 lens i took awesome pictures at parties and events. I cant enough praise about the battery life, that thing just keep on keeping on. BUT....BUT...BUT IQ was not consistent, focusing was scattered, auto white balance was behaving like my Uncle's cataract ( no offense to anyone ), body didnt felt right to hold and in the end cost of purchasing those " Holy Trinity" lens just way way too much .

It was clash between Sony SLT-A77 and Pentax K-5 . I was going for Sony system without trying as there aren't many outlets here where the carry it. My elder brother got Pentax K-5 with couple of limited edition lenses plus Pentax 16-50 and 50-135 and swears by it. I already had a snipe bid on one Sony 16-50 f/2.8 lens when i saw on ebay that someone is upgrading his entire Pentax system. I contacted him on email, gave him reasonable offer, got all above items in mint condition.......................rest is history.

Looking forward to take these babies out for some magnificent Sydney Harbor trip and will keep yous posted.

Cheers and Merry Christmas to all.

Mulla

Welcome to the forum Mulla. Good choice in gear and all the best in your journey with Pentax. As for flash, either if your choices are good. But my preference will stay with the well crafted AF540FGZ by Pentax - even with its touchy pin lock mechanism at the hotshoe (do a search if you're not sure about that).
