K01

Since the days of the Pentax Spotmatic I haven't touch a Pentax. Sometime ago I saw the K01 and I thought that it really looks great, almost as piece of art. I am a professional editor and I am thinking to use the K01 for my videos. I saw some clips on Vimeo and was very impressed with the picture quality. For me this is the bottom line and not some gadgets or a long list of possibilities.
I am not intended to do "snap shots" type of filming but more of carefully planed shots.
I wonder though what is the video file format of the K01. Is it mov. ? I am using FCPX and FCP7. Is the K01 compatible with those applications?
I'll be happy to have responses to actually using the K01 for video work.

Hey there! The K-01 is pretty great for stills and video, and at the price it is sold at now its a steal. It also looks great, at least in person.
The video modes it has are:
VGA 640x480, HD 1280x720, FullHD 1920x1080
Framerate: 24fps, 25fps, 30fps.
Exposure settings: P, Av, M.
Allows highlight and shadow correction, as well as shake reduction. You can use manual lenses (with the limits those lenses will always have on digital bodies).

I don't know much about the technical stuff, but the videos get saved as .MOV files. I'v seen some nice movies made with the K-01, some posted on these forums, with explanations on how the movie was made.

Thanks. Pentax does not mention the mov. file in the camera's specifications, they should. I assume that the K01 is 1920x1080p (progressive) and not i (interlace)
Another question: I could not find the K01 Raw mention in Apple's Raw compatibility with the Mac. Any idea.

The RAW picture format for the K01 is DNG. As long as the program can open DNG files, you should be fine.

I am going back to the video file format question. From the Pentax specifications it is clear that it is MP4 format and not MOV.
For me a MOV file is a must. In the new Q10 camera's specifications its written MOV .

Ok, I just checked my K-01. Regardless of VGA, HD, and FullHD, vidoes are saved in .MOV files. Encoding and stuff, I know nothing about.
Also, in "HD" you can go up to 60fps, but not in the other modes, where you can only go up to 30 fps.
Another thing mentioned should be that for video the camera doesn't appear to use the whole sensor, the edges get cropped a little.

Thanks for reassuring me. Would it possible to attach a very small size video file to your reply so that I can see that there's no need for transcoding in my editing application.
I saw various examples of videos, including the ones in Pentax web site and non of them had any problem with edges being cropped.

I think a video would be too big to attach, mate.

I know the file can be heavy. I thought about few seconds one. It's the format which matters.
Any idea how Pentax lens SMC DA 18-135 F. 3.5 - 5.6 works with the K01?
