Pentax Kr

Hi new to the forum. Bought a new Pentax Kr . Have an old film PentaxMZ-50 which I no longer use. I cannot get the Sigma 100-300 1:4.5 - 6.7 DL and the Sigma 28-80mm 1-3.5 -5.6 Macro on the MZ -50 to work on the Kr.

Help and advice appreciated please.

Welcome aboard! To use those lenses, make sure you set the aperture ring to "A". If there is no such setting, follow these instructions:

In the menu you have to allow aperture ring (at the very end of the menu). Welcome and have fun!

Thanks for the sound advice. I can now use the old lenses. I was told by a local camera shop that I would have to buy new lenses!!

The local shop wasn't 100% wrong - if they meant to say that using older lenses would negate the auto features of the camera such as setting the F-stop. But as Adam said, all old Pentax lenses, even the ones with screw mounts instead of the more modern bayonet mount can be used (you need an adapter for the screw mount). You just have to manually make the settings yourself. It's one of the great advantages to Pentax that you can use their older (and cheaper) lenses.

How well did the older lens work?

I heard from friends who have Pentax cameras that the older lenses can work with the newer cameras. Would like to know how well yours fit and how easy it was to use the pair together.

Both old lens are working very well. They give me loads more versatility than the 18-55mm lens supplied with the Kr. I am looking forward to improving my skills in digital SLR photography.
