New from USA, South Carolina with a quick Q question

I've been surfing for a day or two trying to decide which camera to buy. Finally found this forum and am extremely glad to see such a great site.

Quick question so I can end my search as I'm interested in the Q especially with the new prices at NBC...

I am about to purchase at NBC but cannot seem to confirm the Macro ability of the 02 zoom. My primary need is product photography(pottery) but the camera must be able to do jewelry with very close distance from the product.

thnx for any help

Stinky

The 02 zoom is not a macro lens, but I don't think you'll need macro mode for what you're describing. With the 02 zoom you'll be able to capture stuff as close as 1 foot away.

But TBH, for product photography I'd recommend something bigger, like the K-01, as you'll get higher-res pics. Couple it with the Pentax 50mm macro lens and you'll be all set! You can even get an older manual lens if you want.

The K-01 is currently $316:

Thnx for the reply Adam.

I'm sure you'll understand that I started with a FUJI $150 camera in my search as my budget is closer to that price but have managed to try and make my way to better long term investment cameras but could never reach the $400 and UP pircing with the K01 and others(when a lens is added).

$250 for the Q is a reach for me but seems to offer much more than the $200 "Super Zoom" fixed lens cameras as long as I can take a decent macro shot of my wifes jewelry.

Thnx again for your reply.

You might want to take a look at the X-5 then. It has a real macro mode that focuses to just 1cm:

And it's just $246. True the Q offers more in some areas, but you aren't going to be able to get macros with the Q without investing in a K-mount adapter and a K-mount macro lens, which could be quite costly.

Thank you very much....I had missed the X-5 and am checking it now......looks much better than the Canon PowerShot SX500 IS I have been locked onto prior to finding the Q :-)

Be well,
