Hello from Fairfield CA USA

Hello all.

My father bought a Pentax ME Super about 35 years ago, and that was my first experience with SLRs and Pentax cameras. I still have that ME Super, although it needs a good cleaning as the mirror pads disintegrated long ago. I recently shot a few pictures with the 50MM f2 lens that came with that camera using my new K-01.

I moved up to a Super Program, which died shortly after I procured it, and a Pentax auto-focus which I forget the name of, both coupled to a 50MM f1.4 "A" lens.

Once I moved away from film, I shot with a Fuji 2800, Panasonic FZ2, and my current camera, a Panasonic FZ7.

I was looking to upgrade from the 6 year old FZ7, and was almost ready to pull the trigger on an FZ200, when I noticed the Pentax K-01 was available with 2 lenses for a bit over $500. I jumped on it, and have been very impressed, with the exception of the auto-focus system, which, even with the firmware update, is nowhere near as good as the FZ7's. I simply leave it in manual and have been loving the focus peaking.

I have been using this forum quite a bit over the past couple of weeks, and decided I'd stop lurking.

Welcome aboard! The K-01's AF is only good with lenses that have short focusing throw, i.e. the first few on this page:

I would recommend getting the 40mm XS if you don't already have it.
