First, thanks so much to all the members who contribute to this forum without whom my last few weeks of research would have probably taken closer to a month!
I was/am a budding hobby photographer (Yashica Electro; Olympus Trip in film days) and then when digital came out I waited and waited and got a little Lumix LX3 with it's Leica based lens (and Nokia N8 (Zeiss) for day to day) which I love but just wanted a little more.
After a recent holiday with the kids left with only my Nokia N8, I was lusting for something more and feeling like I was letting the side down taking fairly mediocre shots (don't get me wrong, the N8 is one of the sharpest mobile shooters out there but you know what I mean) so started a marathon research into the next level camera.
After literally weeks of searching, I narrowed it down to the K5; K30; D7000; D5100; 60D as I originally wanted something with an OVF, something manly that I could pose around with (j/k). I had researched the K-01 originally and though loved the design, wasn't sure about the lack of viewfinder. Anyhow, last night it dawned on me that the K-01 shared pretty much the same APS-C sensor (only mirrorless) as the aforementioned DSLR's I'd been looking at all along and the price was so 'right' I just couldn't resist this little beauty! That and coming from the LX3 which I've managed fine without EVF/OVF for the past few years, I decided to jump into the wonderful world of Pentax all guns ablazing!
Anyhow, I'm now waiting on a little black beauty to arrive from the land in which it was conceived and look forward to some great fun (and hopefully experimental) years ahead with what looks to be a fantastic camera from all accounts (believe me I've read/watched a lot in the past week!).
I decided to splash out as I was saving so much compared with the other DLSR's I originally had my eyes on that I now have a few extra goodies on the way (32gb SDHC; old legacy Pentax lens; new waterproof case (that took some hunting; and screen protector!).
I couldn't be more excited and know that this forum (even if I don't participate as much as I should-3 kids under 5 lol) will end up being an amazing resource.
That being said, I will try to post and hope to add and maybe even share some pictures/experiences with the K-01 once I've got to grips with it.
