Hi from San Diego

Hi everyone! I'm trying my hand at film photography.

I obtained my dad's K2 and brought it in for service, only to be told the auto shutter's electronic circuit board was dead and it would only work at a single shutter speed

So...I turned to eBay and picked up a K1000!

It just came in the mail today and I have to say I think it's awesome. Swapped over my dad's 50mm/1.4 lens. I can't wait to load a roll and start shooting.

I have a lot to learn. Glad I found these forums.

Juan

Hmmm...question:
I can barely see the microprism in the focus screen of the K1000. I actually thought it wasn't even there. Can't miss it in the K2 viewfinder.

Is that weird?

Welcome to Pentax Forums, Juan!

I haven't used either of those bodies, so I can't give you a sure answer. But, I know the K2 was a higher end body than the K1000 - so the K2's viewfinder may be bigger than the K1000's. Or maybe the K2 simply has a different / better focusing prism?

You might find some help if you post in this sub forum:
Pentax Film SLR Discussion - PentaxForums.com

And you can learn about the differences between your cameras in this review section:
Pentax Manual Focus Film SLRs - Pentax Pentax Film Cameras - Pentax Camera Reviews and Specifications

For what it may be worth, here's the last paragraph from the K1000 description:

"The main variants are the K1000 (black leather, microprism focusing aid) and the later K1000 SE (black or brown leather and with a split image focusing screen or a combination microprism/split image screen)."
