Returning to photography

Just to say hello.

I decided a few years ago that a decent compact was all the camera I wanted, but I have changed my mind and want to take my photography semi-seriously again.

Having had a Pentax ME something and a P30 and still having a few lenses, I thought about Pentax and last Friday I took the plunge and splashed out on a K-30. So far I have only taken some test shots and some photos of my one-year old grand-daughter - so nothing to share yet. But I am getting used to it and I am looking to take lots of pictures with it, so I will probably be on here with a bunch of silly questions.

First major job though is I have to copy around 2,000 slides and life is too short to put them through a scanner. So I plan on using my old slide projector with the lenses out and the K-30 as a fast copier. I just need to find some white semi-opaque glass or plastic I can put between the bulb and lens to get an even light and I should be away.

I had an old Kodak carosel 120 projector and 200 small 110 size slides. The projector was on its way out, making loud noises and the slides were fading. I simply projected the slides onto a homemade screen about 5 feet from the projector and took photos of the screen with my K-30 (yes, using the stock 18-55mm lens) from about 2.5 feet away at an angle so as not to be in the way of the projection. I used a remote shutter release and no external lighting. The images came out good and now I have them preserved forever on disk. Bear in mind that saving the images was more important than spending time and effort trying to find a rig that would be perfect for the shots. I have included an image of a slide I photographed which was taken 39 years ago on a cheap instamatic camera and stored in a cardboard box. . https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=163793943825900&set=p.163793943825900&type=1
