Hello
Before being a Pentax user, I was an Chinon user (1982) with a CE-4S camera and e few lenses (50mm f/1.7, 135mm f/2.8 and zoom Pentax 35-70 mm f/2.8-3.5). Then I bought a Minolta camera (Dynax 600 Si Classic in France) with a zomm 28-85 and another zoom 70-210.
In january 2011, I bought a Pentax K-5 camera with its basic zoom 18-55 and a Tamron 70-300. Recently, I've bought a Pentax 35mm f/2.8 Macro Limited (very very good lens !) and I intend to buy a Pentax 100mm macro or Tamron 90mm macro.

My softwares to manipulate my pictures : Photivo, DXO Optics Pro 8, The Gimp.

I'm not a great photograph, just an amateur.

Welcome to the forum, but amateur photographers can take great photographs.

Oh dear, not only do I have to live among you every day - I now can't even call PF a retreat from reality

Seriously, though, welcome, from a non-Frog long-time dweller in France.

Now that we are talking to a Frenchman....

In French, "amateur" means, and is used for, "somebody who really likes something" (I'm guessing it derives from "aimer" - to love?) -- not necessarily in opposition to "being paid for, also" (i.e., a professional).

Thus, I'd wager that most great photographers (paid-for, or otherwise) are "amateurs", given how much time, effort, ..., is required to take great photographs
