Needed information and got asked by the site to join

Am considering a digital camera and not sure if I should stay with Pentax... I want to, but the wife questions my reasons for this.

Staying with Pentax: easy, the lenses I have. But when looking at them, I draw the following conclusions:
Pentax 50mm 1.4: yes, this lens is gold. It's also my only AF lens... (swapped the 28-80 in the store for this one when I bought my SFXn in 1989 to replace my Ricoh KR-5)
Sigma 600m mirror: love this lens, but it is not a very good lens. OK would describe the quality best.
Sigma 21-35(3.5) and 35-70(2.8): both have no real value on a digital camera, as an 18-55 kitlens with a digital slr will be pretty equal, not to mention they are manual lenses... OK, the 35-70 has an F-stop more then a modern kitlens.
Soligor 135 2.8. Fun to have, but that about says it...
Obscure-brand 70-210 4.5. Again, nothing special.

So the 50mm is cool, the rest not so much, so why stick with Pentax? For old times sake?

I'm torn...

Oh, and I'm a 42 year old guy from the Netherlands, who hasn't done much with his slr since the kids were born (2003 and onward).
Education in electronic engineering, ran the external production and a calibration lab for measuring equipment for the water-industry, but am now 'retired' due to illness

Welcome to the site, and I hope we'll be able to guide you in the right direction!

If you're primarily interested in great image quality and don't care about extra features such as touch screens, good video, or lightning-fast processing, then I'd consider Pentax to be a good fit for you. It really depends on what you need, as there are lots of great options out there from just about every manufacturer.

Welcome to the forum…

My 2 cents,

Compact and durable DSLR's with a great price to performance ratio, great ergonomics and very nice new lenses & compatible with legacy lens (they are really cheap).

Because of the high quality Limited lenses; priced in hundreds not thousands

WR 18-55 mm kit lens coupled with K-30 is best for Dutch weather

In body shake reduction……which works with any glass.
