Newbie to DSLR

Hello everyone!

I'm vivas! from miami! I'm brand new to the world of dslr's, but always had an interest in them. My girlfriend bought me a k-30 for my birthday which I'm really happy about. I hope I can get advice from this forum and really start my camera without auto mode.

One question, should I update the firmware in my camera or is not really necessary?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, that's some girlfriend, you'd better hang on to her.

FW usually makes the camera better, so yes, I would upgrade

And congratz on a good gf, I had to buy my wife her own camera so we don't have to fight over the camera

Oh, sorry, welcome to the forum!

I would upgrade the firmware, but make sure you read the instructions carefully and follow them to the letter. You don't want to brick your lovely new camera. The K-30 is an awesome camera! Congrats. I think you'll love it! :-)

(Your girlfriend sounds like an awesome gal, by the way!)

Nice GF you have there, had to buy my own K-30, !

But did get my SO a P&S last year, she is also interested in making photos, am thinking of getting her a bridge camera this year (Pentax, ofc, so maybe an X5 or similar), so she then can eventually get a DSLR as well.

The K-30 is a very decent camera, justly deserving the reviews it has been getting so far.

Get her a Q!
My wife just loves her new Q-10 and during our recent trip we ended up taking equally many pictures
