Hello from England's smallest county..

..Rutland that is.

Just got myself a K5 (not a II or IIs), having upgraded from a K-m which I had for 3 years. Why Pentax? Well, the K-m was a good-value kit that I bought as my first DSLR and in looking to change to something better, I did a lot of web research and realised that I didn't need to go Canon/Nikon, so the k5 was the obvious choice.

Like the recent new member from Glasgow, I'm 50-something , and want to take photography more seriously (and have managed to organise a bit more free time to do it). I really appreciate good photography and want to take some good photographs myself (maybe even sell a few, who knows!). Particularly interested in artistic landscapes and townscapes (including night scenes).

This seems to be a really good forum. If ever I ask a Pentax question of Google - more often than not, the answer comes from here! For instance, just read about views on in-camera lens correction and decided perhaps not to bother and see if the PC software will do it instead. Next purchase may be a good quality longer focal-length zoom (150mm+), so I may be coming here for advice.

I look forward to contributing.

Welcome to the Forum. I had to look up Rutland on Wikipedia...

Rutland is just over 3 times the size of the Town I live in (Clay), but with 20,000 fewer people. It is more than 5 times smaller than the Onondaga County

I see Rutland has a large reservoir, it is slightly smaller than Onondaga Lake (the most polluted lake in the United States )

Welcome here, and hope you enjoy the forum. The K-5 is indeed a fine tool and a significant upgrade to the K-m.

Thanks Ash and Boriscieto for the welcomes. You have some great pictures.
Rutland Water is a big lake by English standards, but - being a reservoir - is hardly polluted at all!
It is also a nature reserve (for birds). If I were a wildlife photographer, I'd be there all the time...

Your K-5 is a perfect camera for wildlife and landscape photography.
Depending on your budget, you can get very economical zooms like the DA 55-300, which is quite good even at the 300mm end, or you can invest in even more reaching zooms such as the Sigma 50-500 or 150-500 zooms, which are not much faster than the Pentax 55-300, but have more versatility (although weightier).
