Pentax Kr

New member to forum owning a newly acquired Pentax Kr unit. Taking a trip to Kenya game reserves and looking for advice on zoom lense for taking shots of wild game as well as some bird activity. My Pentax has the normal 18 - 55 lense.

Welcome to the forum Martin. Great choice of a camera. I love my K-r and it has severed me well the past 2 and half years.
Maybe you should post in a different part of the forum so more members can help you with lens choice to Kenya. Maybe in the "Beginner Q&A" or "Pentax Lens Discussion"

But the first lenses that come into my mind is the DAL 55-300mm lens which is pretty cheap and good. Or a Tamron 18-200mm lens. I don't have any experience with more expensive lens like the Sigma 50-500mm, Sigma 120-400mm, Pentax DA* 50-260mm, Pentax DA 18-270mm etc.
That's why I suggest you should make another post

Welcome to the forum, safari holidays are always a bit special and Kenya is right up there among the best, I'm so jealous .

Lens wise you need to take a long as possible and then a bit more, 300 mm is an absolute minimum, 600 mm + is better.

Also consider hiring this specialised kit you going to need for the duration rather than buying it. Also remember to make provision for some sort support system, it will be needed for these lenses they get kinda heavy in use after a while. It might just be a beanbag, monopod, tripod or something, the organised tours may offer loans of this type of stuff, you'll need to check it out with them.

Above all else enjoy you trip.

Remember you can rent lenses. If you're going overseas with them, talk with them first - and get the insurance.
