Hello from Northern Illinois

I'm new to Pentax, planning to start with a K30 and either a Pentax 50-135mm or Sigma 50-150mm II. I'm coming from Panasonic GH2 and changing primarily to shoot my son's basketball games. I've used Sony a700 & Canon in the past. Hope to learn about settings etc. after I pick up the body & lens.

Looking forward to learning about my new venture in photography.

Welcome to the forum! The K-30 is a sweet camera that you will enjoy using.
Be sure to have a look in the forum lens review section. Lots of good info there.

Cheers Yos

Thanks ???

Thank you for the welcome in ideas you might have on the Pentax 50-135 vs Sigma 50-150. The size is no big concern to me but the focusing issues are my prime concern. Anyone's input whose had experience or done first hand comparison would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, you've certainly not picked the easiest of subject matter, indoor, fast moving and usually low light. basketball can be tough, good luck.

With a freshman son playing basketball ... I'd better figure it out because they're starting to fly around the court & lighting isn't great. Thanks!

Welcome aboard from a fellow No. IL resident.
You'll be good, the high ISO will let you get good images even indoors. Don't be afraid of ISO 6400 or higher, just practice and get the feel of the camera.
