A friendly "hello" from South Florida

Hi all. New to this forum. I have a Spotmatic SP1000. My mom got it for me in high school and I've used it a fair amount but I'm only now figuring out how to use it properly (light meter didn't work, replaced battery). I've always loved it and this forum has already helped me in finding the battery I needed. There seems to be a pretty good following for the Spotmatic series even now. I look forward to becoming a part of this community and really delving into the world of photography.

I already had a funny experience today with the camera. It was my first with the light meter working and probably the only real action its had in a few years. I was taking wildlife shots at a local wetlands preserve and guys commented on my SP1000 two seperate times. One noticed it was a Pentax and we talked for a while, he used to own a few and likes 'em. The other couldn't believe I was shooting film! He was totally trying to sell me on digital. Nice guy though, I thought it was funny. Anyways I look forward to gleaning some knowledge from this forum.

And welcome from somewhere else south, South Australia. Great to see you starting out with classic photo kit.

The forum is a great learning resource.

Welcome to the Forum. We have a live and functioning film community, and many members use both. I have had several experiences similar to yours when shooting film, and my PZ-S is readily identifiable as film because of the film canisters taped to both sides of the neckstrap retro 1970s style.
