Hello from Arctic Circle, Finland!

Hey! So, i took my first photos with Pentax today!
Last week i hit the jackpot, apparenty; bought faylty k200d for 65€. Batteryproblems, i took the risk and it seems that the problem was just old NiMh´s and alkalines. Got lithiums today, also an old Rikoh 50mm and shootin´ happily! And on the top of the cake shuttercount just below 17000.

I´m just excited, few years i´ve been pretty ok with my old friend Oly e-410 but then i found myself shooting with (and searching for) old manual lenses, got frustrated with the camera, almost bought Nikon and started dreaming of Pentax. And now i have it!

Now, back to testing/playing with Pentax, i have to say it´s a great machine. And this is a great forum, too!

Welcome Jan. the K200D is still an excellent camera in today's standards. Great 10Mp CCD sensor and great in long exposures. Well done and enjoy it as you enjoy this fine forum. Would love to see the scenes from your intriguing part of the world.

Thanks! So, i´ve been testing, testing and testing and now gotta start drinking and rocking..

I like very much of the results of the CCD, just compared them to pics i have from Canon 450 and Oly of course, and i do like what i see!
I´m more nature/landscapeshooter, lowlightphotos aren´t that important but occasionally i do photoshootings to friends and family. Inside, in the dark, and folks expect good photos...

With Olympus i actually managed to get good pics but seriously it was kind of a pain even with old manual f/1.8 i have. Focusing is guessing, mostly. And i just can´t afford those great modern AF-Zuikos. High ISO grain itself is not really a big problem, bigger problem is that in the Olympus that grain is just plain ugly and hard to get rid of. Adding dynamic compression to that, it is an eyesore. Then again, i just love the little, classic-looking Oly when walking around the city or sitting alone somewhere in the summernights. In summer, remember, here sun doesn´t go down, so light is no problem...
So, many times i had to cheat, make "artistic" images from bad frames. No big deal, they got pretty good prints and in the end everybody´s happy. Well, everybody except me.

Now, when i see the K200´s CCD in action myself, well, ISO1600 is grainy of course but the grain is actually quite pleasant even in those ISO´s. Can´t wait the summernights to come, silent lakes and swamps, fog, light rain, sunset and sunrise... I had great results with old Oly, expect to have greater with Pentax...

Tervetuloa. Se "fog and light rain" sounds familiar. Post pictures when you have the chance.
