Hi From WV

Howdy all:

I am a long time lurker of the Pentax Forums, but wanted to join so I can start contributing and asking questions.

My dad owns (for the next few months) a camera store, and has for the last 40 years (before I was born). I don't remember a time in my life when I didn't understand the relationship between ASA, f-stops and shutter-speeds. The first SLR I used was my mother's Minolta SRT-102 with a Tamron 28-200.

My first SLR was a Pentax ZX-5n. I went on a two-year mission trip, and that camera went everywhere with me. Film was still better than digital at that point. (Or such was my opinion at the time.) My first DSLR was the Pentax K-110. I really loved that camera. I took many pictures with it. But soon, I caught full-frame fever, and ended up with a Canon 5D. I actually had that camera a pretty short time 'cause I talked my father out of his 5D mk II. I shot with that camera for probably 3 years. I enjoyed it, but I never got quite as good with it as I was with my Pentax K-110. After I graduated from college, I came home to work in Dad's Camera store. In so doing I have had the opportunity to attend the last 2 CES shows in Vegas. I got my hands on a K-5 at the show... and was hooked. I still had some of my pentax glass (and had picked up an old k-1000 for long exposure photography) so I got myself a K-5, and it was just instant. All the mojo that I could never quite seem to conjure with my 5D's was back.

That brings me to the present. We are in the process of closing down our store and liquidating inventory. This is not such a bad thing for me--I am walking away with a Pentax Q and some various accessories that are left in stock. My current go-to cameras are as follows:

K-5
14mm f/2.8
35mm f/2
50mm f/1.7

Pentax Q
8.5mm f/1.9

I fancy myself as a landscape photographer, and love film, but have been too busy to really get into it as much as I want. I really want a 645n or 67. At current I have on loan a Mamiya 645, and I have really enjoyed that. But I love my Pentax camreas--they just work, have great glass and don't cost so darned much.

Yeah, if you're an old-school technical shooter, the Pentax controls just feel right, and are very easy to use. It's one of the big reasons I chose Pentax as well. Now, I'm just trying to get the most out of my lenses without succumbing to LBA!

Welcome aboard!
