Thinking about switching

Hi there - Currently using Nikon D5100 & D70s. Thinking of switching to Pentax for weather resistance and a few other reasons.

Amateur, but I did win best in show out of about 300-400 entries in the only contest I've entered

Welcome to the forum, if you need any additional advice before you purchase, there's many "unbiased" Pentax users here to help.

Did you get a K-30? If so, it's going to feel very much like your D5100, with about the same image quality but the added bonus of weather sealing and a bigger grip.

Thanks, all. I purchased a K-5 with a 50-135 2.8

I can live without the 136-200mm range from my 18-200, but I'm going to need to get something for the under 50mm. Probably get the cheap starter lens and then switch to the 16-55 when I decide I can justify it. Or just get a fast, fairly wide prime (anything that's weather resistant?), and be prepared to crop. Thoughts?

That's a great combo image quality wise! Not the fastest focusing lens but not terrible. I have had mine in torrential rain storms, freezing rain and on a splashy ocean voyage without any problems. Hope you enjoy your gear!

Any recommendations on a cheap flash that's not fully manual and can tilt/rotate? Used or third party is fine. I have 2 overpriced Nikkon ones that I never fully utilized, so I know I probably won't need many bells and whistles for a pentax flash (and if I need it down the line I can always upgrade)

that would't work with p-ttl and it doesn't rotate, does it?

yeah, without having something that can go TTL I might as well just use my overpriced Nikon SB600 with some tape over the contacts. And maybe that's what I'll do til I need something else... I don't really use the flash that much anyway, and 90% of the time that I do, I'm just bouncing it off the ceiling or the wall, or I've got something diffusing it. Once I'm totally sold on switching maybe I'll sell them and get something more appropriate.
