Soon to be K-30 owner

Just wanted to introduce myself and thank everyone for contributing. I stumbled upon this forum looking for information on the K-01, which led me to the realization that I can use old Pentax lenses (with the M42 adapter), and then finally to the choice of the K-30 over the K-01. It's on its way, and I can't wait to try it out!

My path here is a little convoluted. I'm fairly experienced with film SLR's, but had never taken the digital plunge. I guess I was skeptical, and/or waiting for something that looked convincing at a reasonable price entry point; i.e.: I thought I'd have to spend $2K to get a camera I liked. So I lost touch with the hobby for a while. Ironically, it's a Sony RX100 that has gotten me excited about stepping up into more serious gear again. I purchased it for travel several months ago, and the results from some recent trips have been really encouraging (it's a fantastic camera, BTW) .

I've been a Nikon person in film, but my father gave me his old Honeywell Pentax and a few lenses. So now I'm looking forward to making use of them. I'm really glad I found this forum, as it seems like there are a lot of good reasons to jump on the Pentax bandwagon.

Anyway, long story. But I really appreciate all the information here. This forum was instrumental in getting me to try the K-30.

Welcome

I kind of stumbled into it in a similar way. I have all these old lenses from my Pentax film cameras, and The K-01 piqued my interest. I played with it a few times in stores. I was almost going to buy, but not having a viewfinder made me hesitate. Then the salesman showed me the K-30.

I decided to save some more and get it earlier this year and have not regretted the purchase yet. I went on a vacation in England and by the end of it I was very comfortable with the handling of the camera.

Now, with the K-50 out, you might get yourself a good bargain.

I got a great deal - the $499 kit with the 18-55 WR lens from Hunt's. So about $100 more than deals on a K-1 kit. This was a little bit of an impulse purchase, but decided to take advantage of the deals.

Seems to be a running theme of people being intrigued by the K-01, then stepping up to the K-30 instead. I was really tempted by the 40 lens that comes with the K-01. But in the end, I decided that the weather resistance, view finder, speed, and other small differences were worth it, given the price. Nothing wrong with the K-01, but I think the K-30 is more capable and versatile in the end.
