Updating firmware

So...when it reads put in root of card, are they talking the empty DCIM folder that you have after you format?

Hi Ronuser
No, Root is the root of the card, i.e. not in any folder you create on the card. Use your PC to browse to the card and place the file on the card, but not in any folder, just on the card.
You need to access the card by placing the card in a card reader attached to (or as part of) your PC or other computer device. You can leave the card in the camera to transfer the software to the card, but must connect your camera by USB to your PC to have the camera act as a card reader.
Hope that helps!
Regards,
Mark

As mentioned above, No. Root is where the DCIM folder sits. You basically put the new firmware next to the DCIM folder.

Actually you can. I've transferred new firmwares to SD card directly (PC-Camera) via USB.

Sorry, yes you can leave it in the camera, but I should clarify that viewing the contents of the card, on the camera does not show the root folder. By viewing the contents of the card from the PC, one would effectively be using the camera as a card reader. Apologies for not making that clear.

Yep...OK got it, thanks

So I downloaded the file to my pc and extracted it. Then dragged (the unzipped file) it into a "loose" and empty (formatted) card making sure it did not go into the DCIM folder. Took the card out of my PC and into the camera. Menu/Firmware/Upgrade and...presto, it worked! Thanks, Ron
