Hello Pentax Community!

Hi all!

I have had a Pentax Kr with std 18-55mm lens for 20mths & check this site often. I am looking to join a local society / photography club soon and also hope to start to understand use of flash & natural light better in the coming months.

I am on the lookout for an affordable and fast telephoto lens mainly for shooting mountainbikers (DA or Tamron 70-210 f2.8 or something cheaper, good for learning but with a quick focus) and another good lens for landscapes, -16-45 f4 I'm led to believe is very good.

Glad to have come aboard- greetings from the UK

The 16-45 is nice, but doesn't have very much reach. It's great indoors and in a crowd, though, and for landscapes is a nice zoom. Plus, it's inexpensive and usually available on the used market.

Welcome aboard!

The lens review section here is a great resource. If it's an unusual lens the information may be spotty, but for the common ones it's really good. The 16-45 got good reviews which is why I replaced an old kit lens with it. I still use it occasionally, mostly because I have a number of filters for it, but not for many of my other lenses. I've taken some really good images with it.
