Back to Pentax

Well, I'm back after an absence of a couple years and stopovers in the land of Olympus (4/3), Nikon (D7000), and Nikon again (D5100).

My new slimmed-down setup is a K-30 (white - awesome), with an 18-135 and a 40mm XS courtesy of the marketplace here. I missed my 40mm Limited so much. I'll also pick up a Sigma 10-20 at some point.

I look forward to all your helpful advice, and I'll post some pics once I get up and running.

Welcome back!

What was your impression of the Nikons? What Pentax did you have before moving away and why did you go to 4/3 and Nikon?

I had a K200D. I wanted something more portable, so I got the Olympus. I really missed a viewfinder and the substantial feeling of a dSLR.

I got the D7000, which was really a great camera, with the 18-105mm kit lens. Excellent focus system, and a pro-ish feel. Really, it was more camera than I could make use of, so I stepped down to the 5100. Nice camera, and very good low-light performance, but not really special. I thought I didn't use it enough, so I sold it and got a Canon S100, which is also very good.

Welcome back. I am trying to force myself to stay put with my current kit for awhile. The grass is always greener, but most cameras can take excellent pictures these days. I am trying to focus more on techniques and post processing these days.
