Newb from Chicago

Hi everyone,

Looks like you have a great community and resource here! I'm just starting to dabble in dSLR, ISO a K10D at the moment. In my usual fashion, I've thoroughly over-analyzed the options in my budget range from Nikon, Canon, and Pentax, and suffered for a short while from options paralysis. But, I've seen the light, and decided to become a Pentaxian. I have very little experience with (d)SLRs, having only shot a small amount with an old Nikon N80, but I'm looking forward to getting back into it, shooting more, and learning a whole heckuva lot as I go.

I want to thank in advance the forum owner, moderators, and active members of the community for creating, operating, and contributing to such a great resource. I'm a moderator on a messageboard (Taperssection.com) for my other hobby, field audio recording, so I appreciate how much effort - both in front and behind the scenes - goes into developing and maintaining a quality forum. Even though just newb, I've even donated a few $$ to get started, as I know how hard it can be funding the servers, maintenance, etc.

Anyway, I'm going scan the Marketplace forum as I try to piece together my gear, and lurk for quite time as I slowly work my way up the learning curve. I'm looking forward to having some fun!

Welcome!

I am not smart enough to lurk as I climb the learning curve - I just ask a fair amount of "ignorant" questions, but people have been pretty patient with me and very helpful!

Hey, every one of us with a long list of goodies in our signatures were newbies once. For some of us, it was a long time ago, but we still ask questions. I can handle a Pentax ok, having had at least one for about 47 years now, but digital? only since November 2007. I have a learning curve. I ask some stupid questions as well, except I think there is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid answers, some of which I have given myself.

The forum is forgiving for the most part. Ignore the very few others. Welcome.

krs -- Nothing wrong with asking questions (even "stupid" ones) right off the bat - lurking first is just my personal style. I know I'll have plenty of questions to post publicly in not too long a time.

Canada_Rockies -- The perspective you share in your post is evident from the threads I've read so far. High signal, low noise, generally very helpful people.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm going to like it here.
